What is the Context?

Recently the Multi-State Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill 2022 was passed by the Parliament. The bill aims to bring about transparency, accountability, and ease of doing business in the cooperative sector, with provisions including the establishment of a Cooperative Election Authority, creation of a Cooperative Rehabilitation Reconstruction and Development Fund, appointment of cooperative ombudsman and information officers, and representation of women and SC/ST members on cooperative society boards.
